TREASURIES-Yield curve flattens after inflation edges higher

NEW YORK, June 11 ( ) – A drop in two-year Treasury prices flattened the yield curve on Tuesday after a Labor Department report showed producer prices increased in May for the second consecutive month, pointing to a steady pick-up in underlying inflation pressures.

Producer prices excluding food, energy and trade services rose 0.4% last month, matching April’s gain, the government said. The so-called core PPI increased 2.3% in the 12 months through May after rising 2.2% in April.

The report appears supportive of the Federal Reserve’s view that recent weak inflation readings are transitory. Fed policymakers are scheduled to meet on June 18-19 against the backdrop of rising trade tensions, slowing U.S. growth and a sharp step-down in hiring in May that have led financial markets to price in at least two interest rate cuts by the end of 2019.

A rate cut, however, is not expected next Wednesday.

An increase in inflation could temper those expectations, because the Fed uses rate hikes to contain gains in inflation. The two-year yield, which reflects market expectations of rate hikes, rose 3.4 basis points to 1.934% in morning trade. That narrowed the spread between two- and 10-year yields, the most common measure of the yield curve, to 22.1 basis points from 23.9 on Monday.

Investors will closely watch the consumer price index report on Wednesday for further evidence of inflation. Expectations for a cut in July have been roughly stable since Monday, last around 66.7%, according to CME Group’s FedWatch tool.

“Really the key data point for this week is going to be CPI. It is a question of whether inflation is transient – every data point is going to be important to make that determination,” said Subadra Rajappa, head of U.S. rates strategy at Societe Generale.

The Treasury Department’s auction of $78 billion of government debt this week, beginning with the sale of $38 billion in three-year government notes on Tuesday, will also be in focus. Increased supply tends to lower prices and lift yields, broadly the trend in Tuesday morning trade.

“The focus is going to be on supply so there might be a little bit of a concession getting built into the market ahead of the auctions,” said Rajappa.

“We’ve seen a tremendous rally in bonds, so given today’s concession I think the three上海夜生活网-year auction should go OK.”

General Electric CEO sets low 2019 profit targets, vows better from 2020

( ) – General Electric Co Chief Executive Larry Culp on Thursday set conservative profit targets for this year and staked his reputation on hitting them and doing better in 2020 and beyond, igniting a rally in the stock.

Culp’s detailed pep talk, which drew praise from Wall Street analysts on a conference call, swiftly reversed an earlier rout in the stock as he stressed GE was serious about its targets after years of missing profit expectations.

The forecast was low largely because GE will be spending $2.5 billion on restructuring this year,上海夜生活论坛 Culp said, adding the investment would pay off after a tough 2019.

“This is what constitutes a ‘reset,’” Culp said, using a word many analysts had longed to hear.

“The market should interpret a high level of conviction (in the forecast) simply because this team, in a public forum, is laying this roadmap out, mindful of the realities of 2019 but I think also optimistic … about the impact of what we’re doing.”

Culp did not soft-pedal the short-term pain. He said 2019 adjusted profit would be 50 cents to 60 cents a share, below analyst estimates of 70 cents, and GE could lose as much as $2 billion in cash from its industrial businesses, putting a number on a warning he issued last week.

The company expects free cash flow at GE Power to remain negative in 2020 before turning positive in 2021.

Investors are looking closely at GE’s cash and earnings after the company lost nearly $23 billion last year.

The outlook is “arguably better than expected,” said Deane Dray, an analyst at RBC Capital Markets.

The company did not make reference to any potential hit to its jet engine unit from the recent global grounding of Boeing Co’s 737 MAX aircraft. GE and partner Safran SA make the engine that powers all 737 MAX planes.

GE shares were up 2.9 percent at $10.31 in afternoon trading, after falling 4 percent in premarket activity shortly after the forecast was released. GE bonds also rose slightly.

“While lowered guidance is not a positive, we think GE’s plan and progress show it’s moving in the right direction,” said Jim Corridore, analyst at CFRA.

Culp also left considerable wiggle room in the forecast by including an unspecified amount of “contingency” money to cover hard-to-predict costs, such as when it will conclude big asset sales and how its power unit will perform.

JPMorgan analyst Stephen Tusa voiced concern that the gap between GE’s cash flow and earnings forecasts was the widest he had seen, which likely will mean analysts’ profit estimates are too high.

Culp said that although GE was taking “a safe conservative posture in this reset year … Rest assured, operationally, we’re running hard.”

Trump’s trade war cost U.S. economy $7.8 billion in 2018: study

WASHINGTON ( ) – President Donald Trump’s trade battles cost the U.S. economy $7.8 billion in lost gross domestic product in 2018, a study by a team of economists at leading American universities published this week showed.

Authors of the paper said they analyzed the short-run impact of Trump’s actions and found that imports from targeted countries declined 31.5 percent while targeted U.S. exports fell by 11 percent. They also found that annual consumer and producer losses from higher costs of imports totaled $68.8 billion.

“After accounting for higher tariff revenue and gains to domestic producers from higher prices, the aggregate welfare loss was $7.8 billion,” or 0.04 percent of GDP, the researchers said.

The study was authored by a team of economists at the University of California Berkeley, Columbia University, Yale University and University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and published by the National Bureau of Economic research. www.nber.org/papers/w25638

Having dubbed himself the “tariff man,” Trump pledged on both the campaig上海夜网n trail and as president to reduce the trade deficit by shutting out unfairly traded imports and renegotiating free trade agreements.

Trump has pursued a protectionist trade agenda to shield U.S. manufacturing. Washington and Beijing have been locked in a tit-for-tat tariff battle for months as imposing unilateral tariffs to combat, and Trump has imposed tariffs that have roiled the European Union and other major trading partners.

The authors said while U.S. tariffs favored sectors located in “politically competitive” counties, the retaliatory tariffs imposed on U.S. goods have offset the benefits to these areas.

“We find that tradeable-sector workers in heavily Republican counties were the most negatively affected by the trade war,” the researchers said.

Francis believes that Sanchez can be the United’s missing part

Gerry Francis, the former Quee上海夜生活ns Park Rangers player, insisted that Alexis Sanchez is the “finished article” the Red Devils desperately needed to buy to become one of the greatest world’s clubs again.

The former QPR player spoke about Sanchez’s skills as he said, according to Sky Sports: “Sanchez is a real goalscorer, he’s talented and he’s aggressive around the box and he makes things happen, he can pull teams through. It’s [about] the present, you’re looking to win trophies and looking to win competitions and sometimes you need to buy and have the finished article and Sanchez is certainly that.”

He also shared his thoughts on his effect on the squad: “It just makes them as a squad that much stronger. Certainly a much bigger goal threat with Sanchez. He’s proven year in and year out that he can score goals. From Jose Mourinho’s point of view, it gives him another very, very strong arrow for his bow.”Top 5 Real Madrid players who are succeeding on a loan Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – We need to talk about the Top 5 Real Madrid players who are currently succeeding away from the club and are currently on a…

Peter Odemwingie, the former West Brome striker, also believes that Sanchez will have an immediate impact: “If you look back 10 years when Manchester United were probably the most successful team in Europe the average age was much higher and they were a better team.  Of course, all credit to the younger boys they are doing really well but it’s a more natural process to slowly groom them and not just make them key players. I think a bit of maturity is needed to go back to the heights they were before.”

In the end, Odemwingie said that Sanchez will make the everyone’s stats better: “They [younger players] took their chances well but stats should be what they rely on, and if Sanchez comes in and his stats are better – as much as you think they are the future of the club – they have to be patient and wait for the time they are ripe enough for such a massive club.”

Pochettino urged Kane to play even better

Mauricio Pochettino, the Tottenham coach, admitted that he believes that Harry Kane, his side’s best striker, can continue in his improvement and will start to play even better than he has done so far this season.

The Englishman managed to score a hat-trick in his team’s latest 3-0 away win against Burnley and he proved himself to be a key player for the Spurs once again. His coach admitted that the young England international is very important for his system of play but he also claimed that he can see a space for a possible improvement and he hopes that Kane will not stop with his progress.

The former Southampton coach spoke about his star striker as he said, according to ESPN: “I think he still can improve. He’s 24, I think the player arrives at their best at 27, 28, 29, depending on how professional you are. But Harry Kane, if he keeps that mentality, keeps working hard every day in the training sessions and never changes that mentality, he can play until he wants to.”Opinion: Martin Odegaard is perfect for the Premier League Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – Given how much he’s been rejected by Real Madrid, we are convinced that Martin Odegaard is perfect for the Premier League.Martin Odegaard is finally…

He continued by adding that Kane can break Shearer’s record: “Of course the record of Alan is fantastic. He was a fantastic player, but Harry is doing so well. I think Alan was consistent during 10 years scoring goals and you need to show massive respect because it was amazing what he did. Now Harry is doing well, we hope for Tottenham, for him, for everyone that loves the club, tha上海夜生活网t every season he scores 50 or more than 50.”

In the end, Mauricio Pochettino insisted that his team have to start being consistent: “We need to keep the momentum, to try to win again, to be consistent. If we want to fight at the end for big things we must try to be consistent. But I’m sure that the team is focused, like we showed today. It was tough last week against City, but the team is in a good way.”

Rivaldo confident Coutinho will thrive in Barcelona

The Reds ace is still heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou.

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho will be a success in Barcelona, according to former Catalan Rivaldo. The ‘Magician’ from Anfield was a subject of serious speculations over the summer transfer window, and the rumours linking him with the Catalans have once again surfaced the media.

The Catalans will surely have to fork out a big amount of money to secure the Brazilian, but former Brazil international Rivaldo has no second thoughts regarding Coutinho, whom he sees as a perfect fit for the La Liga side.

“I do not know if the signing will be made or not because there is a lot of money involved, but I am convinced that if he comes to Barca, he will succeed because it is easy to succeed here with the quality he has.” Rivaldo said in front of Mundo Deportivo.Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers relishing Liverpool return Andrew Smyth – Brendan Rodgers is relishing Leicester City’s trip to his old club Liverpool, whom he described as a “privilege” to work for during his three-year stint.

Meanwhile another Brazilian, Paulinho, has proven to be a great ba上海夜生活rgain for Barca, following a surprising move from the Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande.

“Paulinho is doing a great job.” Rivaldo added.“He is an important player in both Barcelona and the national team.”

Arthur: No deal with Barcelona

Gremio midfielder Arthur claimed he has signed no deal with FC Barcelona, despite meeting the Catalan side

The 21-year-old prospect says that “first contact” has been made with Ernesto Valverde’s men but him signing a contract is still far away, despite speculations of a potential transfer move in January.

Arthur has been heavily linked with a transfer to the La Liga giants, especially after the midfielder was spotted wearing a Barca shirt last week. That was enough to get speculators going.

After that incident, many suggested that a deal had already been completed between Gremio a上海夜生活nd Barcelona, yet the 21-year-old midfielder has denied that is the case.

“On the Barcelona issue, they really talked to me. We had a meeting, but I want to clarify that we have nothing agreed or defined,” Arthur told Esporte Interativo.Opinion: FC Barcelona needed to end the internal war Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – After a victory at Camp Nou, we believe that FC Barcelona did well by ending the internal war between players and the board ASAP.Those…

“It’s a club that I admire a lot. It was only first contact for them to get to know me and my family, and for me to meet them, let’s take it easy. There is nothing definite, but we did have a conversation.”

“I’m a Gremio player. My agent did not negotiate any contract. That did not happen. Any deal has to be good for me and good for the club, which is my home, where everything started. I arrived with 14 years, I am a Gremio fan at heart, my blood is blue,” he added.

The midfielder was named as the outstanding player in the Copa Libertadores final, which many suggest could be a sign of him getting interest from more big European clubs.

Despite the interest of other club giants, such as Manchester United, Barcelona reportedly went on to submit a €35 million bid for the youngster, but the Brazilian club have refused the amount. They probably know some clubs will pay even more for the youngster’s signature.

AC Milan prepare January bid for Aguero

AC Milan are prepared to further invest in transfers and are monitoring the situation of Sergio Aguero.

Pep Guardiola has long been targeting his former player Alexis Sanchez, whose contract with Arsenal is set to expire next summer. In fact, Manchester City were very close to secure the transfer of Sanchez last summer, when they had a €70m bid accepted. However, the move collapsed after Arsenal failed to sign Thomas Lemar as a replacement.  The Citizens are now confident that a €20m bid in January will persuade the Gunners to allow the Chilean to move to Emirates.Report: West quit Milan because of the Mafia George Patchias – Taribo West claims he quit AC Milan because of the Italian mafia. The retired Nigerian international defender Taribo West claims he left Milan almost 19…

And now AC Milan are set to look into how they can benefit from Sanchez’s move to Manchester City. According to Daily Mail, the Rossoneri will enquire about Sergio Aguero in January, confide上海夜网nt that they could lure the Argentinian away from Etihad.

Sergio Aguero is on track to become Manchester City’s all-time top goalscorer. The Argentinian scored seven goals in eight matches this season and is very close to break the record of Erik Brook, who scored 177 goals for the Citizens. However, the 29-year-old is currently out of action after suffering a broken rib in a car crash in Amsterdam at the end of last month.

Liverpool fans assaulted by police

Liverpool fans claimed they were assaulted by Seville police during Tuesday’s Champions League clash

According to GOAL, the Reds are to “establish the facts” following reports of “heavy-handed” treatment at the hands of police and stewards in Tuesday’s Champions League clash at Sevilla.

Some of the travelling fans were not allowed into the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, while others were assaulted by police, claimed supporters group Spirit of Shankly.

Jay Mckenna chairman of Spirit of Shankly released a statement, saying supporters were assaulted in the first-half of the game.

“We became aware of issues affecting supporters during the first half of the match,” Mckenna told ESPN.

“A couple of our committee members reported problems getting into the ground, being refused access as the 上海夜生活论坛flag they had [which featured a Liver bird and the word “defiance”] was accused of having a political message.”

“What is more concerning is the reports of heavy-handed treatment of supporters, including physical assaults, with one committee member reporting she was punched as she was pushed out of the ground.”

“Similar experiences have been shared with us from other supporters last night, and we’ve asked people to come forward so we can raise this issue with the club,” Mckenna explained.

“We’ve already flagged it up to them and we’re aware they are looking for more information.”

The chairman went on to say they will hold both clubs and UEFA accountable for what happened.

“Clearly, though, what happened last night isn’t acceptable and we will be asking both clubs and UEFA what they plan to do about it.”

Liverpool confirmed they are looking into the issue right away. “Following detailed and troubling accounts given by Liverpool supporters attending the match against Sevilla last night, the club is seeking to establish the facts regarding their treatment at the hands of the host stewards and local police force,” a club statement read.

“The safety and security of our supporters is our paramount concern and we intend to gather all the relevant information before responding further,” the Reds stated after their 3-3 draw against Sevilla.

Neville: “Arsenal showed how good they could be”

It was a bit surprising result as Arsenal managed to win the north London derby against Tottenham and after a 2-0 win, there is just a one-point difference between these two sides.

The former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, is certain that Arsenal just finally showed their full potential as they were the dominant side in this crucial match against their main rivals. Shkodran Mustafi scored the winning goal and hugely criticized Alexis Sanchez added the second – Tottenham were completely eliminated by the Gunners and they didn’t show barely anything in this game.

Gary Neville hadn’t thought even before the match that Arsenal was going to lose this one as he said, according to Sky Sports: “I didn’t think Arsenal would lose before the game being honest because I think after international duty, to go away from home at 12.30pm, is not easy. But that’s as good as I’ve seen Ar上海夜生活senal, it really is. I wondered after ten minutes would they be able to keep it up? Is it just a bold start that would fizzle out? He evaluated the match further on: “From minute one, they pressed onto that Tottenham back three, made them anxious and made them nervous. A very good back three as well by the way. I have to say I thought the intent from that front three, supported well and sustained by Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey, won them the game in terms of setting the tone.”

In the end, the Red Devils legend added: “If you think about the teams I played in and you’ll have seen it yourself over the years when the best players in the team are setting the tone and working hard and making challenges the rest of you follow and come with you.”

Real need someone like Mbappe

Former Madrid star Steve McManaman thinks Real need a player like Mbappe, and not Harry Kane

Steve McManaman says Los Blancos should be looking for a young prospect like Kylian Mbappe. The former 上海夜生活Real star doesn’t like the idea of spending €200 million on Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

Real Madrid continue to be linked with Spurs’ outstanding attacker, Harry Kane. The English striker has already been called as the “successor” of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kane’s impressive form for both Spurs and England has made him Real Madrid’s target. The English striker has won two Golden Boot awards in the last two seasons in London and is likely to win the third one at the end of this season.

McManaman, though, feels that Real would be better advised signing a player with potential to unlock rather than paying over the odds for a proven performer, GOAL reports.

The former Real midfielder spoke to MARCA before the highly-expected game between Tottenham and Real Madrid at Wembley:  “I would prefer [to sign] a young boy like Kylian Mbappe.”

“It’s very difficult to sign Kane. The price of footballers today is crazy,” McManaman said.Explaining FC Barcelona’s war between players and board Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – We need to shed some light into what is actually happening between FC Barcelona’s players and the board of directors. We need to address this…

The 45-year-old retired midfielder said he can’t understand Kane’s price: “You need to pay €200 million for Kane and I do not understand those figures.”

While McManaman feels a big-money move for Kane makes little financial sense, he does believe that the 24-year-old would find it easy to settle in Spain, GOAL continues.

Not many players are willing to make the move from the Premier League to any Spanish clubs, because of the huge differences in for example culture and language.

McManaman added: “In England the clubs are very professional, and it is a great place to be.”

The 45-year-old said Kane wouldn’t have problems with getting around in Madrid, and Real players who speak English could easily help him.

“Kane can stay in London because he is happy with his family. But if he moved to Real Madrid, surely he wouldn’t have problems adapting.”

“Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and other players speak English and can help him. Madrid is also a beautiful city,” he concluded.

Barcelona monitoring Leverkusen trio

Barcelona are looking for solutions to boost their squad options and they have put three Bayer Leverkusen players on their list.

Barcelona had a good start of the season, finding themselves at the top of La Liga table, five points clear of rivals Real Madrid. However, the Catalans are still looking for reinforcements, after a summer in 上海夜生活网which their transfer business was far from impressive.

Having lost Neymar to PSG for €222m, the Catalans spent the rest of the transfer window looking for worthy replacements. And although they have been linked with some very big names, they have only brought in Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund. Furthermore, the French forward got injured two weeks into the season and will be unavailable for the rest of the year.Pique sends a warning message to the board after Barcelona scrape the win against… Nedim Maric – The turmoil at the beginning of the season caused a lot of concerns at Barcelona.Shaky start of the season for Barca saw them get…

Although reports suggest that Barcelona have not given up at the thought of bringing Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool, the Catalans are also looking for alternatives. The Spanish newspaper Sport writes that Ernesto Valverde’s side are currently monitoring three Bayer Leverkusen players: Jonathan Tah, Julian Brandt and Leon Bailey.

Jonathan Tah is a 21-year-old centre back who has attracted a lot of interest lately, especially from Premier League clubs. Leon Bailey (20) and Julian Brandt (21) are both wingers that can play on any side of the attack. Brandt is a German international and has also attracted interest from major clubs, Bayern Munich monitoring his progress in Bundesliga.

The three Leverkusen players could prove to be a worthy alternative to Philippe Coutinho, as they will probably require around the same transfer fee expenditure, but would in turn provide much more options in the squad. Furthermore, all three of them are very young and have a lot of playing time ahead of them, as well as margins for further development.

Albrighton: Drinkwater can expect hostile reception

Marc Albrighton says his former team-mate could face 上海夜生活论坛a hostile reception this weekend if he were to play against Leicester.

Danny Drinkwater secured a €40m move from Leicester to Chelsea on transfer deadline day and he could make his debut for the Blues in the match against his former team. If the England International were to start for Chelsea in the weekend, Leicester will then face their title-winning central midfield couple: N’Golo Kante – Danny Drinkwater.

Kante moved to Chelsea immediately after winning the title with Leicester, at the end of the 2015/2016 season. One year later, he is followed by Drinkwater and the pair will now work together for Antonio Conte.

Speaking to SkySports, Leicester’s winger Marc Albrighton gave his opinion on the possibility of Drinkwater making his debut against his former team: “It will be strange for us, but it’ll be stranger for him. To play in front of the fans that he played for, for so many years, but once the whistle goes, it’s business as usual.Lampard challenges Hudson-Odoi to emulate Sterling Andrew Smyth – Frank Lampard wants Chelsea’s talented youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi to follow in Raheem Sterling’s footsteps in becoming a star.

I’m sure he’ll be professional and do the best he can. He might get stick for 90 minutes, but barring that I’m sure the Leicester fans will be fantastic with him.

He’s achieved some tremendous things, that no one thought this club could achieve in this era, and he’s been a huge part of that, from getting them out of the Championship, to winning the Premier League, to Champions League football.”

Albrighton also spoke about how strong Chelsea’s new central midfield will be with his two former team-mates: “I think they’re certainly up there. Manchester United have got a strong midfield but with Drinkwater and N’Golo in there it’s going to take some stopping and there won’t be many that overrun that. They’re great individuals, but when they’re playing together, how they compliment each other is fantastic.”

Mati\u0107 expecting United to challenge for two big trophies

The Serbian is hoping his team will be a contender both for the Premier League and the Champions League.

Nemanja Matić has high hopes for the Red Devils this season. The £40 million summer signing is eyeing on the possibility of challenging for multiple titles following a magnificent start in the Premier League.

Manchester United have had more than a perfect start with 9 points in 3 games, 10 goals scored and 0 goals conceded.

Matić also admits that the Champions League group of United is ‘favourable’ and does not see a reason why the Red Devils would not be able to compete on multiple fronts.

“Winning the Premier League title will be a tough task not just for us but for everyone because there are five or six realistic contenders.” the 29-year-old said as quoted by Goal.Report: Mourinho rejects several offers amid Real Madrid talk Andrew Smyth – Jose Mourinho has reportedly turned down several job offers in Europe as he eyes up a potential shock return to Real Madrid.

”The 2-1 UEFA Supercup def上海夜生活论坛eat against Champions League holders Real Madrid was a good test of our credentials to slug it out with Europe’s best.

“We were outplayed but that was a one-off while the Champions League is a competition where you face different rivals in every round.”

If Manchester United can keep the form they have shown so far throughout the whole season then Matić and his team-mates are up for a wonderful season in the 2017-18 campaign.

New details about Messi’s tax fraud scheme

Messi cleared his record, as the Spanish Court decided to replace his suspended prison sentence with a fine.Written by Cosmin Mihalescu. June 27, 2017.

But the problems didn’t end for the Argentinian star. According to the Spanish press, Messi used his foundation to hide his revenues from the Spanish authorities.

The Spanish journalists from ABC said: “Leo Messi Foundation created a structure to hide tens of millions of euros resulted from sponsorship agreements that were not declared. The Foundation cannot confirm that the amounts have been spent for social projects of helping children with problems.”

Furthermore, the journalists explain that the institution was used as an “umbrella organisation for a big part of the revenues obtained between 2007 and 2015.” It is thought that more than €10m were not declared to the Spanish or Argentinian authorities.Kane: Spurs out of excuses after shock Carabao Cup exit Andrew Smyth – Harry Kane concedes that Tottenham only have themselves to blame following a shock Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Colchester United.

Finally, the initial organisation was registered in Barcelona in 2013, when the foundation was not active in Spain, because all the contracts were signed in Rosario, for both the Argentinian and the Spanish organisation, with the revenu上海夜生活论坛es not being declared.

Inter’s persistence pays off

After weeks of rumours and testing the field, Internazionale Milano have finally managed to arrange a meeting with their number one target.Written by Cosmin Mihalescu. May 1, 2017.

Diego Simeone would be interested in the role of manager on Giuseppe Meazza, in case he finally manages to win the Champions League with Atletico.

Having spent the last weeks trying to persuade Simeone to listen to their plans, Inter have now arranged a meeting with the Argentinian and they are set to make him an official offer.

In order to persuade Simeone, Nerazzurri are willing to guarantee him total control of the transfer policy at the club, with promises of huge investments from the new Chinese owners.

One obstacle in Cholo’s way to Milan might be his current contract that expires in 2018 and the promise that he has made to the Atletico board that he will lead them into the next season, which will see them move into their new stadium.

However, an eventual victory in the Champions League final would be regarded as the completion of a cycle by the Argentinian coach and he would then be more willing to consider a fresh start somewhere else.

Simeone has played for Inter between 1997 and 1999 and has always made it clear that he would like to return to Giuseppe Meazza as a manager later in his career. Another ace in the sleeve of Inter is their current vice-president, Javier Zanetti, who is a very good friend of Simeone, from their playing time for both Inter and Argentina.

Factbox: Guilty pleas, indictments abound in Trump-Russia probe

( ) – Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 U.S. election has ensnared dozens of people, including several advisers to President Donald Trump and a series of Russian nationals and companies.

Rod Rosenstein, the No. 2 U.S. Justice Department official, in May 2017 appointed Mueller to look into Russian interference, whether members of Trump’s campaign coordinated with Moscow officials and whether the Republican president had unlawfully sought to obstruct the probe. Mueller has charged 34 people and three companies.

Attorney General William Barr issued a summary of Mueller’s report on March 24, saying it did not find any evidence that Trump or his associates broke the law in an election that was marked by extensive interference by Russia.

Trump denies collusion and obstruction. Russia denies election interference.

PAUL MANAFORT

Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chairman was sentenced to a combined 7-1/2 years in prison in two cases brought by Mueller in which he was convicted by a jury in Virginia in August 2018 and pleaded guilty a month later in Washington.

In Virginia, he was found guilty of five counts of tax fraud, two counts of bank fraud and one count of failing to disclose foreign bank accounts.

Manafort, who prosecutors said tried to conceal from the U.S. government millions of dollars he was paid as a political consultant for pro-Russian Ukrainian politicians, pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy in a separate case in Washington and agreed to cooperate with Mueller. The Washington case had focused on accusations of money laundering and failing to report foreign bank accounts, among other charges.

A judge on Feb. 13 ruled that Manafort had breached his agreement to cooperate with Mueller by lying to prosecutors about three matters pertinent to the Russia probe, including his interactions with a business partner, Konstantin Kilimnik, who they have said has ties to Russian intelligence.

MICHAEL COHEN

Cohen, Trump’s former personal lawyer, pleaded guilty in August 2018 to crimes including orchestrating “hush money” payments before the 2016 election to women who have said they had sexual encounters with Trump, violating campaign laws. That case was handled by federal prosecutors in New York, not Mueller’s office.

As part of a separate agreement with Mueller’s team, Cohen pleaded guilty in November 2018 to lying to Congress about negotiations concerning a proposed Trump Tower in Moscow, a project that never materialized.

Cohen is due to report to prison on May 6 to begin serving a three-year prison sentence.

Cohen in February 2019 testified at a public hearing before a House of Representatives committee. He accused Trump of approving the “hush money” payments and knowing in advance about the 2016 release by the WikiLeaks website of emails that prosecutors have said were stolen by Russia to harm Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid. He said Trump implicitly directed him to lie about the Moscow real estate project.

He promised to keep cooperating with prosecutors and made multiple closed-door appearances before congressional panels.

MICHAEL FLYNN

Flynn, Trump’s national security adviser for less than a month in early 2017, pleaded guilty in December 2017 to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia during Trump’s presidential transition and agreed to cooperate with Mueller.

KONSTANTIN KILIMNIK

A Manafort aide in Ukraine and a political operative described by prosecutors as linked to Russian intelligence, Kilimnik was charged in June 2018 with tampering with witnesses about their past lobbying for Ukraine’s former pro-Russian government.

Prosecutors said in January 2019 that Manafort shared political polling data with Kilimnik in 2016, providing an indication that Trump’s campaign may have tried to coordinate with Russians.

THIRTEEN RUSSIAN NATIONALS, THREE COMPANIES

Thirteen Russians and three Russian companies were indicted in Mueller’s investigation in February 2018, accused of taking part in an elaborate campaign to sow discord in the United States ahead of the 2016 election and harm Clinton’s candidacy in order to boost Trump. SAMUEL PATTEN

Patten also admitted to arranging for a U.S. citizen to act as a straw purchaser for tickets to Trump’s inauguration on behalf of a Ukrainian oligarch, thereby circumventing a law prohibiting foreigners form providing money to the inaugural. The case stemmed from a referral from Mueller to the Justice Department.

Anthem shares sink as cost concerns overshadow earnings beat

( ) – Anthem Inc (ANTM.N) shares fell as much as 4% on Wednesday after the U.S. health insurer missed Wall Street expectations for a key medical cost gauge as a result of higher costs of selling Medicaid health plans for low-income customers.

Anthem reported a 10.2% fall in operating profit from its unit which sells government health plans, in the quarter, saying the decline was driven by continued elevated medical cost trends in Medicaid in some states.

Concerns about medical costs took the shine off the group’s better-than-expected second-quarter earnings and increased full year forecast for adjusted earnings, which in part reflected the successful launch of its new pharmacy benefits business.

As regulatory uncertainties about the health insurance sector persist ahead of the 2020 U.S. presidential elections, Anthem has doubled down on diversifying its business and in May started shifting members to the new pharmacy benefits unit, IngenioRx.

The Indianapolis, Indiana-based company raised its 2019 adjusted net income forecast to over $19.30 per share from a prior estimate of greater than $19.20.

“We now expect IngenioRx to achieve the upper end of our $0.70 – $0.90 guidance,” Chief Executive Officer Gail Boudreaux said in a statement, referring to 2019 earnings per share contribution from the unit.

Anthem’s benefit expense ratio — the percentage of premiums paid for medical services — worsened to 86.7% from 83.4% a year earlier. Analysts on average expected 86%, according to IBES data from Refinitiv. A lower benefit expense ratio is better for health insurers.

Anthem updated its 2019 forecast for the ratio to 86.2% to 86.5%, from an earlier 85.9% to 86.5% range.

Although the progress of IngenioRx is encouraging for long-term outlook, the focus is likely to remain on the benefits expense ratio underperformance and continued elevated medical costs in certain Medicaid states, Evercore ISI analyst Michael Newshel said.

Anthem shares rose 2% after the results, but quickly gave up all the gains and were down 3.5% at $292 before the bell.

On Tuesday, its rival Centene Corp (CNC.N) warned of higher costs than previously expected this year, while UnitedHealth Group (UNH.N), the largest U.S. health insurer上海夜网, also missed estimates for medical costs in the second quarter.

Anthem’s net income rose 8% to $1.14 billion, or $4.36 per share, in the quarter ended June 30.

Excluding items, the company earned $4.64 per share, ahead of the average analyst estimate of $4.61.

Anthem raised its 2019 operating revenue forecast to about $102 billion, up from an earlier estimate of about $100 billion.

Total operating revenue rose about 11% to $25.18 billion, beating Wall Street targets of $24.87 billion, it said.

Beto O’Rourke to seek Democratic U.S. presidential nomination: source

EL PASO, Texas/WASHINGTON ( ) – Beto O’Rourke, the Texan who gained a national following with his long-shot election battle against U.S. Senator Ted Cruz last year, will seek the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, a source close to the campaign said on Wednesday.

O’Rourke, a 46-year-old former three-term U.S. representative from West Texas, will make his announcement via video on social media at 7:30 a.m. EDT (1130 GMT) on Thursday, the source said.

“I’m really proud of what El Paso did and what El Paso represents,” O’Rourke said of his hometown in a text to TV station KTSM, which first reported his entry into the race. “It’s a big part of why I’m running. This city is the best example of this country at its best.”

O’Rourke planned to follow his announcement with a trip to Iowa, the state that will hold the first Democratic nominating contest in February 2020.

With his presidential effort, O’Rourke is hoping to leverage the fame he gained with his Senate race. He was a heavy underdog when he challenged Cruz, a Republican, in mostly conservative Texas, but he quickly demonstrated an ability to draw capacity crowds and raise money from voters nationwide.

His Senate bid generated a torrent of media attention and excited voters in a party desperate for fresh political faces. He lost the race by less than 3 percentage points, the tightest U.S. Senate contest in the state in four decades.

Early opinion polls on the 2020 race have consistently ranked O’Rourke in the top tier of more than a dozen declared or possible Democratic contenders, behind former Vice President Joe Biden, who has not yet said whether he is running, and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, a 2016 presidential contender who announced his 2020 candidacy last month.

Vanity Fair quoted O’Rourke as saying in an interview published on Wednesday that he was aware of his disadvantage as a white man at a time when many in the Democratic Party want a woman or a person of color for president.

“So if I were to run, I think it’s just so important that those who would comprise my team looked like this country. If I were to run, if I were to win, that my adm上海夜生活论坛inistration looks like this country. It’s the only way I know to meet that challenge,” O’Rourke told the magazine.

KEEPING IN PUBLIC EYE

Since his Senate bid ended, O’Rourke has worked to keep himself in the public eye, regularly staying in touch with his supporters and sitting for an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

He took a well-publicized road trip across the American Southwest, stopping at colleges and diners. He visited with students in the key swing state of Wisconsin.

He also held a rally in El Paso on the same night in February that Republican President Donald Trump staged one there. Both events in the Texas city that borders Mexico drew thousands and put the two men’s divergent positions on the border wall on sharp display.

In El Paso, Trump ridiculed O’Rourke as “a young man who’s got very little going for himself, except he’s got a great first name.” O’Rourke accused Trump of stoking “false fear” about immigrants.

Starting with the Iowa caucuses next year, the Democrat who amasses the majority of delegates nationwide in a series of nominating contests will be nominated at the party’s convention in the summer, and will likely face Trump in November’s general election.
