Ex-Trump adviser Flynn talking to Congress about testifying in Russia probe: lawyer

((In March 30 item, corrects spelling of Kislyak in paragraph 3))

WASHINGTON ( ) – Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, has offered to testify before congressional committees probing potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia but wants protection against “unfair prosecution,” his lawyer said on Thursday.

“General Flynn certainly has a story to tell, and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit,” said a statement from Flynn’s lawyer, Robert Kelner.

Testimony from Flynn could help shed light on the conversations he had with Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergei Kislyak last year when he was the national security adviser for Trump’s presidential campaign.

Kelner said discussions had taken place about Flynn’s availability to testify with officials of the intelligence committees of both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives. Both committees are investigating allegations of Russian meddling in the U.S. election campaign last year as well as possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russians.

Flynn was forced to resign as Trump’s national security adviser in February for failing to disclose talks with the Russian ambassador before Trump took office about U.S. sanctions on Moscow and misleading Vice President Mike Pence about the conversations.

Questions remain about the scope of the discussions and what other contacts took place between other Trump advisers with the Russians. Earlier this week, the White House disclosed that Trump’s son-in-law and White House senior adviser, Jared Kushner, met executives of Russian state development bank Vnesheconombank, or VEB, in December.

U.S. intelligence agencies have said Russ上海夜网ia hacked emails of senior Democrats and orchestrated the release of embarrassing information in a bid to tip the presidential election in favor of Trump, whose views were seen as more in line with the Moscow’s.

Russia has denied the allegations. Trump has dismissed suggestions of links with Moscow as Democratic sour grapes for losing the election.

‘WITCH HUNT ENVIRONMENT’

The Wall Street Journal, citing officials with knowledge of the matter, reported on Thursday that Flynn had sought immunity from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the House and Senate intelligence panels in exchange for his testimony. The newspaper said he had so far found no takers.

The House denied the Journal report. “Michael Flynn has not offered to testify to HPSCI in exchange for immunity,” committee spokesman Jack Langer said in a statement.

The FBI declined to comment. The Senate committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Kelner’s statement did not mention the FBI.

He said Flynn “is now the target of unsubstantiated public demands by Members of Congress and other political critics that he be criminally investigated.”

Kelner said Flynn would not “submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution.”Independent Senator Angus King, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told CNN he could not confirm the Journal report, but “if that turns out to be the case, that’s a significant development I believe because it indicates that he has something important to say.”

TREASURIES-Yield curve flattens after inflation edges higher

NEW YORK, June 11 ( ) – A drop in two-year Treasury prices flattened the yield curve on Tuesday after a Labor Department report showed producer prices increased in May for the second consecutive month, pointing to a steady pick-up in underlying inflation pressures.

Producer prices excluding food, energy and trade services rose 0.4% last month, matching April’s gain, the government said. The so-called core PPI increased 2.3% in the 12 months through May after rising 2.2% in April.

The report appears supportive of the Federal Reserve’s view that recent weak inflation readings are transitory. Fed policymakers are scheduled to meet on June 18-19 against the backdrop of rising trade tensions, slowing U.S. growth and a sharp step-down in hiring in May that have led financial markets to price in at least two interest rate cuts by the end of 2019.

A rate cut, however, is not expected next Wednesday.

An increase in inflation could temper those expectations, because the Fed uses rate hikes to contain gains in inflation. The two-year yield, which reflects market expectations of rate hikes, rose 3.4 basis points to 1.934% in morning trade. That narrowed the spread between two- and 10-year yields, the most common measure of the yield curve, to 22.1 basis points from 23.9 on Monday.

Investors will closely watch the consumer price index report on Wednesday for further evidence of inflation. Expectations for a cut in July have been roughly stable since Monday, last around 66.7%, according to CME Group’s FedWatch tool.

“Really the key data point for this week is going to be CPI. It is a question of whether inflation is transient – every data point is going to be important to make that determination,” said Subadra Rajappa, head of U.S. rates strategy at Societe Generale.

The Treasury Department’s auction of $78 billion of government debt this week, beginning with the sale of $38 billion in three-year government notes on Tuesday, will also be in focus. Increased supply tends to lower prices and lift yields, broadly the trend in Tuesday morning trade.

“The focus is going to be on supply so there might be a little bit of a concession getting built into the market ahead of the auctions,” said Rajappa.

“We’ve seen a tremendous rally in bonds, so given today’s concession I think the three上海夜生活网-year auction should go OK.”

The former Chelsea player spoke about his feelings as he said, according to ESPN: “I am really happy to have signed this new deal. In the end, Txiki Begiristain, the director of football, claimed: “Kevin’s new deal is great news for our club. He has shown this season how important he is to the team and has been integral in everything we’ve done so far. We are thrilled he has committed his long-term future to Manchester City.”

Francis believes that Sanchez can be the United’s missing part

Gerry Francis, the former Quee上海夜生活ns Park Rangers player, insisted that Alexis Sanchez is the “finished article” the Red Devils desperately needed to buy to become one of the greatest world’s clubs again.

He also shared his thoughts on his effect on the squad: “It just makes them as a squad that much stronger. Certainly a much bigger goal threat with Sanchez. Peter Odemwingie, the former West Brome striker, also believes that Sanchez will have an immediate impact: “If you look back 10 years when Manchester United were probably the most successful team in Europe the average age was much higher and they were a better team.  Of course, all credit to the younger boys they are doing really well but it’s a more natural process to slowly groom them and not just make them key players. I think a bit of maturity is needed to go back to the heights they were before.”

In the end, Odemwingie said that Sanchez will make the everyone’s stats better: “They [younger players] took their chances well but stats should be what they rely on, and if Sanchez comes in and his stats are better – as much as you think they are the future of the club – they have to be patient and wait for the time they are ripe enough for such a massive club.”

Lingard happy with United spirit

The Red Devils managed to secure a draw against Burnley after上海夜生活网 coming back from a 0-2 deficit.

Manchester United striker Jesse Lingard praised his team-mates for not giving up in what appeared to be a rather frustrating day at Old Trafford.

The England international did not feature in the starting XI of the Red Devils in their 2-2 draw with Leicester City, but was brought into play from the bench against the Clarets to help his side seal a point.

Mourinho’s men were 2-0 down at half-time following goals from Ashley Barnes and Steven Defour, but Lingard scored a brace to deny the Clarets the three points at Old Trafford.

However, United’s draw means that Manchester City can create a 15-point gap on top of the league if they manage to beat Newcastle United on Wednesday.Solskjaer “very pleased” after another failure to win George Patchias – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he was “very pleased,” even though United failed to win yet again. It is now ten games on the road since…

Rivaldo confident Coutinho will thrive in Barcelona

The Reds ace is still heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou.

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho will be a success in Barcelona, according to former Catalan Rivaldo. The ‘Magician’ from Anfield was a subject of serious speculations over the summer transfer window, and the rumours linking him with the Catalans have once again surfaced the media.

The Catalans will surely have to fork out a big amount of money to secure the Brazilian, but former Brazil international Rivaldo has no second thoughts regarding Coutinho, whom he sees as a perfect fit for the La Liga side.

“I do not know if the signing will be made or not because there is a lot of money involved, but I am convinced that if he comes to Barca, he will succeed because it is easy to succeed here with the quality he has.” Rivaldo said in front of Mundo Deportivo.Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers relishing Liverpool return Andrew Smyth – Brendan Rodgers is relishing Leicester City’s trip to his old club Liverpool, whom he described as a “privilege” to work for during his three-year stint.

Eriksson insists Rooney deserves more praise

The former England manager believes the Everton striker did not receive the respect he should have.

Wayne Rooney deserved to be loved by the English crowd just like Francesco Totti was in Italy, insists Sven-Göran Eriksson.

The former Manchester United striker retired from the national squad in August after scoring 53 goals in 119 caps for England. Yet, he was widely criticized for his performances despite his great record for the Three Lions throughout his 上海夜网career.

Eriksson, who was in the managerial position of England from 2001 to 2006, thinks that Rooney deserved more from the fans, comparing the Englishman to Italy legend Totti.Rooney’s soon to be new club Derby in drink driving shame George Patchias – Wayne Rooney’s soon to be new club Derby County, has been shamed by a double player drink driving incident.Reports surface ate Tuesday night of…

“If Rooney had been Italian, he would have been loved like Francesco Totti was at Roma. You don’t criticise Totti in Italy. There might have been reasons to, sometimes, but you don’t touch him.

“It isn’t like that with Wayne and England but I can tell you that he had to be dragged away from training because he loved to play and practice so much.”

Albrighton: Drinkwater can expect hostile reception

Marc Albrighton says his former team-mate could face 上海夜生活论坛a hostile reception this weekend if he were to play against Leicester.

Danny Drinkwater secured a €40m move from Leicester to Chelsea on transfer deadline day and he could make his debut for the Blues in the match against his former team. If the England International were to start for Chelsea in the weekend, Leicester will then face their title-winning central midfield couple: N’Golo Kante – Danny Drinkwater.

Kante moved to Chelsea immediately after winning the title with Leicester, at the end of the 2015/2016 season. One year later, he is followed by Drinkwater and the pair will now work together for Antonio Conte.

Speaking to SkySports, Leicester’s winger Marc Albrighton gave his opinion on the possibility of Drinkwater making his debut against his former team: “It will be strange for us, but it’ll be stranger for him. He’s achieved some tremendous things, that no one thought this club could achieve in this era, and he’s been a huge part of that, from getting them out of the Championship, to winning the Premier League, to Champions League football.”

Albrighton also spoke about how strong Chelsea’s new central midfield will be with his two former team-mates: “I think they’re certainly up there. Manchester United have got a strong midfield but with Drinkwater and N’Golo in there it’s going to take some stopping and there won’t be many that overrun that. They’re great individuals, but when they’re playing together, how they compliment each other is fantastic.”

Mati\u0107 expecting United to challenge for two big trophies

The Serbian is hoping his team will be a contender both for the Premier League and the Champions League.

Nemanja Matić has high hopes for the Red Devils this season. The £40 million summer signing is eyeing on the possibility of challenging for multiple titles following a magnificent start in the Premier League.

Manchester United have had more than a perfect start with 9 points in 3 games, 10 goals scored and 0 goals conceded.

Matić also admits that the Champions League group of United is ‘favourable’ and does not see a reason why the Red Devils would not be able to compete on multiple fronts.

“Winning the Premier League title will be a tough task not just for us but for everyone because there are five or six realistic contenders.” the 29-year-old said as quoted by Goal.Report: Mourinho rejects several offers amid Real Madrid talk Andrew Smyth – Jose Mourinho has reportedly turned down several job offers in Europe as he eyes up a potential shock return to Real Madrid.

”The 2-1 UEFA Supercup def上海夜生活论坛eat against Champions League holders Real Madrid was a good test of our credentials to slug it out with Europe’s best.

“We were outplayed but that was a one-off while the Champions League is a competition where you face different rivals in every round.”

If Manchester United can keep the form they have shown so far throughout the whole season then Matić and his team-mates are up for a wonderful season in the 2017-18 campaign.

UEFA will not investigate Manchester City

The Citizens will not be under UEFA Financial F上海夜生活论坛air Play investigation.

After the close-season reached its end, La Liga president Javier Tebas insisted that Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain “funding by state-aid distorts European competitions and creates an inflationary spiral that is irreparably harming the football industry”.

“There is no investigation into Manchester City with regards to FFP regulations. Any reports mentioning such an investigation are unsubstantiated.” reads a statement by UEFA.

Both clubs spent enormous amount of money during the summer transfer window. The Parisiens bought Neymar for 222 million euros from Barcelona and added Mbappe to their ranks on a loan deal, that will become permanent next year for a fee of 165 million pounds.

Meanwhile Manchester City spent around 215 million pounds overhauling their defensive options with the signings of Kyle Walker, Ederson Moraes, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva. However, Guardiola’ side sold several players, which left their net spending at around 130 million pounds, which seems quite normal, taking into account the current situation of the transfer market.

Griezmann linked with Barcelona

Latest rumours suggest that the Catalans will try to lure the Frenchman, following failed attempts to sign Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann is Barcelona’s latest target as they seek to find a replacement for Neymar, who will seemingly join Paris Saint-Germain. However, Juanfran claims that the 26-yaer-old is happy in Madrid an上海夜生活论坛d has no reason to leave.

The France international recently extended his contract at Los Colchoneros, which will keep him at Atletico Madrid until 2022.

“Now we play the final of the Audi Cup, which is what we wanted.”

Conte deems Manchester clubs title contenders

The Blues dominated the Premier League last season, but both City and United have been spending big this summer.

The Italian manager believes Guardiola and Mourinho will provide serious competition to Chelsea’s title defense in the upcoming season. Chelsea are back in the Champions League, which means the club will have a hectic schedule and their job will be a lot harder compared to last season.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City have passed the £100m mark during the close-season, meaning the battle for Premier League trophy will be tougher.

During the Blues pre-season tour in Singapore, Conte told reporters:

“It is normal that every big team tries to reinforce their squad by bringing in quality players.” – as quoted by Goal.

“That is what they have done [United and City]. For sure, next season in Premier League will be a huge challenge for us.”

Manchester United close to a deal for Nemanja Matic

Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Nemanja Matic from Chelsea according to ESPN sources. Moreover, it is reported that the midfielder could sign by the end of the week.

After Tottenham showed no intention of selling Eric Dier, Matic has become Mourinho’s top target in his attempt to find a new defensive midfielder.

Another factor influencing the deal is that Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco is very close to a move to Chelsea and if the deal goes through he will most probably be the preferred choice when it comes to the holding midfielder role.Kane: Spurs out of excuses after shock Carabao Cup exit Andrew Smyth – Harry Kane concedes that Tottenham only have themselves to blame following a shock Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Colchester United.

The numbers behind Luis Suarez

The numbers of Barcelona’s Uruguayan striker are impressive to say the least. Suarez has now reached 200 goals in the last six years.Written by Cosmin Mihalescu. April 30, 2017.

After a goal drought of five matches, Luis Suarez managed to score again for Barcelona. Not only once, but twice he scored against local rivals Espanyol, and in doing so, he also scored the 1000th goal of the current La Liga season.

Thanks to Saturday’s brace, Suarez has now scored 200 goals in his last 277 matches – 82 goals in 133 matches for Liverpool and 118 goals in 144 matches for Barcelona.

However, the 30-year-old was scoring goals even before arriving at Anfield. He has made a name for himself in Holland, with Ajax, where he scored 19 goals in his first season (2007/2008). In the three-and-a-half seasons spent with Ajax, the South American scored 111 goals in 159 matches played in all competitions.Inter Milan V Lazio: Players to Watch Taimoor Khan – Inter Milan are set to host Lazio at the San Siro on Thursday and the game is definitely going to be an exciting affair…

Luis Suarez was close to winning the title with Liverpool in the 2013/2014, when he scored 31 goals in 33 matches. In his first season at Camp Nou, he managed to win the Champions League trophy, after winning against Juventus in the final.

This season, Suarez scored 11 decisive goals in La Liga and he is the player who scored the most winning goals in the league.  He is also the player who has scored the most first goals, having netted nine times to open the score.

Thanks to their victory on Cornella-El Prat on Saturday, Barcelona have moved back to the first position of La Liga, having a better goal difference than Real Madrid. But Los Blancos have one game in hand over their Catalan rivals.

Oil drops 3% on weak global economic data, U.S. crude stocks build

NEW YORK ( ) – Oil prices shed 3% on Wednesday after fresh Chinese and European economic revived global demand fears and U.S. crude inventories rose unexpectedly for the second week in a row.

Brent crude LCOc1 settled at $59.48 a barrel, shedding $1.82, or 3%, losing some of the previous session’s sharp gains after the United States moved to delay tariffs on some Chinese products.

The global benchmark rose 4.7% on Tuesday, its biggest daily percentage gain since December.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures CLc1 settled at $55.23 a barrel, falling $1.87, or 3.3%, after having risen 4% the previous session, the most in just over a month.

China reported disappointing data for July, including a surpris上海夜网e drop in industrial output growth to a more than 17-year low, underlining widening economic cracks as the trade war with the United States intensifies.

The global economic slowdown, amplified by tariff conflicts and uncertainty over Brexit, is also hitting European economies. A slump in exports sent Germany’s economy into reverse in the second quarter, data showed.

The euro zone’s GDP barely grew in the second quarter of 2019.

“The data out of China, the potential recession brewing in Germany, all of that is playing into global demand worries,” said Phil Flynn, an analyst at Price Futures Group in Chicago. “Today, we’re back in fear mode.”

The U.S. Treasury bond yield curve inverted for the first time since 2007, in a sign of investor concern that the world’s biggest economy could be heading for recession.

“With much focus today shifting toward the inversion in the two versus 10-year bond yields, global risk appetite saw another major contraction that easily flowed into the oil space,” Jim Ritterbusch, president of Ritterbusch and Associates, said.

A second week of unexpected builds in U.S. crude inventories added to the pressure on the oil markets.

U.S. crude stocks USOILC=ECI grew by 1.6 million barrels last week, compared with analysts’ expectations for a decrease of 2.8 million barrels, as refineries cut output, the Energy Information Administration said in its report. At 440.5 million barrels, inventories were about 3% above the five-year average for this time of year, the EIA said in its weekly report.

“Countering this bearish (crude) build has been draws to both gasoline and distillates amid strong implied demand,” said Matt Smith, director of commodity research at ClipperData in Louisville, Kentucky.

Gasoline stocks fell by 1.4 million barrels, compared with analysts’ expectations in a poll for an increase of 25,000 barrels, as demand jumped to a record 9.93 million barrels per day, according to EIA data going back to 1991.

Democratic Senator Bennet of Colorado joins crowded 2020 field

WASHINGTON ( ) – U.S. Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado, whose political career has centered on improving the American education system, on Thursday became the latest Democrat to join the sprawling field of candidates seeking the party’s 2020 presidential nomination.

Bennet, 54, is serving his second full six-year term in the Senate. He previously ran Denver’s public schools.

“If we continue to go down the path we’re going – and this isn’t just about President Trump, it’s about the politics that existed before he got there … we’re going to be the first generation of Americans to leave less opportunity, not more, to the next generation, and I just need to do everything I can do to make sure that we don’t do that,” Bennet said in an interview with “CBS This Morning.”

He joins a field of more than a dozen candidates, with others such as former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams and Montana Governor Steve Bullock still deciding whether to run.

Bennet is the second Coloradan to enter the 2020 race after John Hickenlooper, a former governor, announced his candidacy on March 4.

Hickenlooper’s presence complicates Bennet’s bid. Both are white male moderates running in a party where much of the energy lies with the diverse, activist left.

Bennet is not well known nationally. However, his stint in 2014 as chairman of the Democratic Party’s Senate campaign arm linked him with a network of political operatives and donors across the country.

The normally congenial Bennet also drew notice during the partial U.S. government shutdown in January, when he blasted Republican Ted Cruz on the Senate floor for leading a similar shutdown in 2013 that stopped the flow of emergency funds to Colorado.

Democratic nominating contests begin in February 2020 in the traditional starting point of Iowa. The candidate who amasses the majority of the delegates will be nominated at the party’s convention in the summer and will likely face President Donald Trump, a Republican, in the general election in November.

Since losing the White House in 2016, Democrats have grappled with how to best take on Trump in 2020. Some in the party believe an establishment figure who can appeal to centrist voters is the way to victory. Others argue a fresh face – and particularly a diverse one – is needed to energize the party’s increasingly left-leaning base.

As a presidential candidate, Bennet may have to fight the perception that he is a product of the party’s establishment at a time when progressives and political newcomers are favored by the base.

He grew up in Washington the son of a former State Department official, and his grandfather advised President Franklin Roosevelt. A graduate of Wesleyan University and Yale Law School, he served in the Clinton Justice Department before moving West.

When Hickenlooper served as mayor of Denver, Bennet worked as his chief of staff and then took over the city’s schools, gaining national recognition for his reform efforts.

In 2009, after Democratic then-President Barack Obama named U.S. Senator Ken Salazar of Colorado as his interior secretary, Hickenlooper and Bennet vied to be appointed to replace him. Bennet, surprisingly, got the nod. He narrowly won his first full term a year later.

Bennet’s popularity has grown in Colorado 上海夜生活论坛as the state has become more liberal. In 2016, he was re-elected to the Senate by more than 5 percentage points, polling particularly well with Hispanic voters.

Bennet told CBS he was focused on economic mobility and integrity in government.

In a campaign video, Bennet also highlighted goals that included improving the healthcare system and investing in education and job training.

“The Democratic party doesn’t stand for very much at the national level with respect to what the American people think,” Bennet said. “A process like this is long overdue in the Democratic party.”

He also acknowledged his bout of prostate cancer, saying it was very “clarifying” in solidifying his plans for the future and that he now had a clean bill of health. The diagnosis also made him more sensitive to the need for Americans to have health insurance, he said.

Anthem shares sink as cost concerns overshadow earnings beat

( ) – Anthem Inc (ANTM.N) shares fell as much as 4% on Wednesday after the U.S. health insurer missed Wall Street expectations for a key medical cost gauge as a result of higher costs of selling Medicaid health plans for low-income customers.

Anthem reported a 10.2% fall in operating profit from its unit which sells government health plans, in the quarter, saying the decline was driven by continued elevated medical cost trends in Medicaid in some states.

Concerns about medical costs took the shine off the group’s better-than-expected second-quarter earnings and increased full year forecast for adjusted earnings, which in part reflected the successful launch of its new pharmacy benefits business.

As regulatory uncertainties about the health insurance sector persist ahead of the 2020 U.S. presidential elections, Anthem has doubled down on diversifying its business and in May started shifting members to the new pharmacy benefits unit, IngenioRx.

The Indianapolis, Indiana-based company raised its 2019 adjusted net income forecast to over $19.30 per share from a prior estimate of greater than $19.20.

“We now expect IngenioRx to achieve the upper end of our $0.70 – $0.90 guidance,” Chief Executive Officer Gail Boudreaux said in a statement, referring to 2019 earnings per share contribution from the unit.

Anthem’s benefit expense ratio — the percentage of premiums paid for medical services — worsened to 86.7% from 83.4% a year earlier. Analysts on average expected 86%, according to IBES data from Refinitiv. A lower benefit expense ratio is better for health insurers.

Anthem updated its 2019 forecast for the ratio to 86.2% to 86.5%, from an earlier 85.9% to 86.5% range.

Although the progress of IngenioRx is encouraging for long-term outlook, the focus is likely to remain on the benefits expense ratio underperformance and continued elevated medical costs in certain Medicaid states, Evercore ISI analyst Michael Newshel said.

Anthem shares rose 2% after the results, but quickly gave up all the gains and were down 3.5% at $292 before the bell.

On Tuesday, its rival Centene Corp (CNC.N) warned of higher costs than previously expected this year, while UnitedHealth Group (UNH.N), the largest U.S. health insurer上海夜网, also missed estimates for medical costs in the second quarter.

Anthem’s net income rose 8% to $1.14 billion, or $4.36 per share, in the quarter ended June 30.

Excluding items, the company earned $4.64 per share, ahead of the average analyst estimate of $4.61.

Anthem raised its 2019 operating revenue forecast to about $102 billion, up from an earlier estimate of about $100 billion.

Total operating revenue rose about 11% to $25.18 billion, beating Wall Street targets of $24.87 billion, it said.
